I is for Intuition

Steam filled Sara’s nostrils as the hot water streamed from the shower jet. She let the water cascade over her back, her neck, and her hair and made no motion to stem the droplets running down her face.

Such a wicked indulgence.

Jack had always been a shower person. Sara had preferred a long, luxurious bubble bath, but had to admit a shower was more invigorating. Her skin felt tingly and she looked as her arms turned pink. She’d been under the hot water too long but she didn’t care.

She had other things on her mind.

She started to sing softly before giggling at her crazy lyrics. Her casual interpretation of the words had always made Jack crazy, and often he’d come into the bathroom; sit on the side of the tub, trying to teach her the words to his favorite songs. She had no time for that indulgent, long bath today though. After a bath, there was always the temptation to slip into soft robe and snuggle up with a hot chocolate and a good book, or some trashy but indulgent television program. After a shower, she had more get up and go, and that was what she needed now.

A small, smile crept over Sara O’Neill’s face as she thought about what the night might bring. She reached for her favorite shower gel and started soaping her body slowly. The sharp scent of grapefruit and lemon enveloped her as it mingled with the steam.

Sara’s fingers lingered on the taps before sighing as the hot water stopped and goose bumps appeared all over her skin like magic. Time to move.

The hairdryer blew her curls around as she vainly tried to tame them into a sleek, sophisticated look, but knew it was a lost cause. Studying her reflection carefully, Sara wondered where they pretty girl with the mass of honey blonde curls and freckled nose had gone. When had this middle-aged woman appeared? Why hadn’t she noticed?

The sound of the doorbell shook her from her reverie, and pursing her lips, she put on the pale pink lipstick that she hoped would soon kissed off.

The smell of the grapefruit from the shower lingered on her skin and she took a deep breath. Jack had loved smelling it on her. Had that changed? Would want to nuzzle her neck so the grapefruit and lemon verbena mixed with his musky aftershave once more? Would he even want to?

Her intuition hadn’t let her down, and when Jack O’Neill inhaled as he walked past, she knew he was about to get that chance again.
